Vehicle Maintenance Checklist For Turo Hosts
This post is a complete vehicle maintenance checklist for Turo hosts.
Running a car sharing business on Turo is a lot of work. A good portion of that work is maintaining your vehicles so your guests can have a smooth and safe experience with your cars.
While maintaining your cars may seem overwhelming at first, you’ll find that once you organize and set up a system that works, it’s really not that bad.
I’ve created this vehicle maintenance checklist for Turo hosts to help you streamline the process and make it easy for you to keep track of your vehicle maintenance.
Here is a list of vehicle maintenance items you’ll want to keep up with throughout the year for your Turo business.
This post is a vehicle maintenance checklist.
Oil Change
You should change your car’s oil between every 5-7.5k miles or about every 3 to 5 months.
This will vary from car to car, so check with your car manufacturer or check the car manual for how often you need to change the oil.
When you get your oil changed, they will typically top off your windshield wiper fluid and coolant, check your tire pressure and change the engine oil filter. If you change the oil yourself, you will want to remember those maintenance items as well.
Cabin Filter
Generally speaking, you should change the cabin filter every 15k miles or every 9 to 12 months.
When renters heavily smoke in the car, it’s a good idea to go ahead and change your cabin filter right away.
Engine Air Filter
You don’t have to change the engine air filter as often as the cabin filter. It will usually last twice as long and is recommended to change about every 25k miles or every 2 years, whichever comes sooner.
Tires
Rotate the tires about every 5k miles or every 3 to 5 months.
It’s a good idea to do the alignment and tire balance at the same time you get your tires rotated.
Generally, tires last between 36-75k miles or every 6 years, but the best way to know it’s time to change them is by measuring the tire tread with a tire tread measuring tool.
Turo requires tire tread depth to be no less than 4/32″.
If your renter gets in an accident during their trip and your tire tread depth was below 4/32″, you are responsible for all vehicle damages. So remember to keep an eye on that.
Break Pads
Check if your break pads need to be replaced every 25-65k miles.
A great way to tell if your break pads need replacing is if you start to hear squeaking noises coming from the breaks or if you feel it takes longer to stop when you apply the breaks.
As with all maintenance, how long your breaks last will depend on the type of car it is.
For example, sport cars take a lot more abuse, wear and tear from renters than regular economy cars. So you will probably expect to change the breaks on sport cars more often.
Windshield Wipers
Replace windshield wipers about every 25k miles or every 12 months.
You’ll know it’s time to change the windshield wipers when it starts leaving streaks.
Turo Maintenance Requirements
Note: Turo has specific maintenance requirements you must abide by in order to rent your vehicle on Turo.
Turo will charge you fees if you fail to meet their maintenance requirements. You can see Turo’s fees for maintenance violations here.
You are required by Turo to submit an annual vehicle safety inspection once a year for each of your vehicles. This needs to be done by a certified mechanic. Turo has the inspection form listed here for you to print and give to your mechanic to fill out.
